NASA's uncrewed Curiosity rover has returned a new panoramic view showing wind-carved cliffs on the surface of Mars, ScienceDaily Space & Time reported. The images provide a detailed look at distant horizon formations that scientists hope to examine up close in 2027. [1]
ScienceDaily Space & Time reported that the newly captured panorama was taken at 8:30 a.m. local Mars time. Scientists believe the unusual cliff structures may hold evidence of ancient volcanic activity on the Red Planet. [1]
As FTMQ Space reported earlier, Curiosity captured a panorama of wind-carved cliffs illuminated by morning light inside Gale crater, highlighting rock formations known as yardangs. Curiosity landed inside Gale crater in 2012 as part of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory mission and continues to explore the site alongside Mount Sharp. [5][8]
ScienceDaily Space & Time reported that scientists are planning to send the rover to approach these unusual rock formations. Researchers hope to uncover the secrets behind the strange appearance of the cliffs as Curiosity travels closer to them. [1]
