An international team of scientists has discovered a significant difference in the chemical composition of Uranus and Neptune, Phys.org Space reported. The researchers found that Neptune appears to be more enriched in oxygen than Uranus after indirectly probing the deep atmospheres of both planets. [1][2]

The findings indicate that the two ice giant planets may have formed in different regions of the early solar system before migrating to their current orbits, according to Phys.org Space. The composition variance calls into question previous assumptions that the two planets shared identical origins. [1][2]

Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun and is classified as an ice giant composed mainly of water, ammonia, and methane. It features an extreme axial tilt of 82.23 degrees and completes one orbit around the Sun every 84 Earth years. [3]

The scientific team collected the data by indirectly measuring atmospheric conditions deep within the two worlds. The structural and chemical differences suggest distinct developmental environments during the formation phase of the primitive solar system, Phys.org Space reported. [1][2]
