Space industry stocks declined following news of a NASA delay and financing issues surrounding SpaceX, TradingView reported on October 7. The drop affected companies across the commercial space sector as investors reacted to potential scheduling shifts and financial pressures. [1]

The market movements come as SpaceX faces major operational adjustments. Florida Today reported that SpaceX plans to retire its Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft, leaving an uncertain future for NASA reliance on those platforms. Meanwhile, NASA News reported that NASA and SpaceX are targeting no earlier than October 13 to launch the 35th commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station. That uncrewed mission is scheduled to launch aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, carrying over 6,300 pounds of supplies and equipment. [3][4]

At the same time, NASA and SpaceX completed the departure of the crewed SpaceX Crew-12 mission from the International Space Station. The NASA ISS Station Report and Aviation Week both reported that the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft undocked from the space-facing port of the station's Harmony module at 8:05 a.m. EDT on October 7. The spacecraft carried NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev. [6][7][10]

Space reported that the Crew-12 astronauts are returning to Earth on October 8 after spending nearly eight months in space. NASA, NASA ISS Station Report, and FOX 35 Orlando all reported that NASA is streaming live coverage of the Crew-12 return and splashdown. [6][8][9][11]
