Commercial and international satellite operators are facing critical shortages of specialized components and materials due to an unprecedented expansion of low Earth orbit megaconstellations, SpaceNews reported. The supply chain squeeze is being intensified by intense competition for resources from the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence industry. [1]

Several major aerospace entities have put forward vast orbital deployment plans, according to SpaceNews. Amazon aims to launch more than 5,000 satellites, while Blue Origin has proposed a network of 5,400 spacecraft. Elon Musk has discussed plans for up to 1 million satellites, and Chinese firms have submitted filings covering significantly larger numbers. [1]

Resources represent essential inputs required for systems to function properly and reach operational goals, which require strategic management to handle finite limits and avoid depletion risks. [2][3]

The acute shortage of materials is forcing suppliers to struggle with demand, SpaceNews reported. As a direct result of these supply constraints, satellite manufacturers are being forced to alter spacecraft designs and accept operational timeline delays. [1]
