NASA News and NASA announced that the agency will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. EDT on October 20, 2026, at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. The briefing will preview two upcoming U.S. spacewalks, designated as spacewalks 100 and 101, outside the International Space Station. NASA will stream the media event live across several platforms. [1][2]
The uncrewed operations and astronaut extravehicular activities are planned to complete solar array installations on the orbital laboratory. NASA News reported that the primary objective of these spacewalks is to finalize power augmentation systems for the station. United States based media members seeking to attend the event in person must register with the Johnson newsroom by 3 p.m. on October 19, 2026. [1]
Extravehicular activities on the International Space Station are major operational events conducted to install new hardware, rewire systems, and maintain station modules. Astronauts also perform spacewalks to set up or retrieve scientific experiments. Expedition 75 is currently underway on the station, having begun in July 2026 under the command of NASA astronaut Jessica Meir. [3][4]
