The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency is preparing to launch an uncrewed spacecraft on a mission to bring back samples from Phobos, one of the two moons of Mars, ABC News reported. The launch is scheduled for Tuesday from Japan aboard a new H-3 rocket. The overall mission is expected to last five years. [1]

According to ABC News, this effort represents the first mission designed to collect and return physical samples from Phobos. Scientists aim to study the gathered materials to learn how Phobos and Deimos, the smaller moon of Mars, originally formed. Researchers also hope the data will provide insights into the origins of life within the solar system. [1]

The planned deployment comes as space agencies, including those in the United States and China, evaluate future human missions to Mars. ABC News reported that physical samples returned from Phobos will offer critical data for scientists considering future exploration strategies in the Martian system. [1]
