The astronauts assigned to the Artemis III lunar mission met with President Donald J. Trump at the White House on October 28, 2026. Official reports from the White House, Space, and Starlust.org noted that NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman accompanied the crew during the visit. Starlust.org reported that the crew presented the president with a moon rock during the meeting. [1][8][10]

At the same time, hardware preparation for the mission reached a significant step in Florida. NASA News reported that on October 28, engineers inside High Bay 3 of the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center integrated the Space Launch System core stage alongside its twin solid rocket boosters. Space reported that the spaceflyers are preparing for a test flight targeted for 2027, with potential launches beginning next summer if schedules hold. [1][3][6][9]

The Artemis program aims to return humans to the lunar surface. Artemis II previously launched four astronauts on a flyby around the Moon, marking the first crewed flight of the Space Launch System and the Orion spacecraft beyond low Earth orbit since 1972. [11]

International participation in the broader Artemis framework also expanded. NASA News announced that the Socialist Republic of Vietnam officially signed the Artemis Accords on October 28, becoming the 78th nation to join the international space exploration coalition. [5]
