Amazon revealed commercial plans on October 11, 2026, to bundle its Amazon Leo satellite broadband service with Amazon Prime subscriptions and consumer ecosystem services. As SatNews and Broadband Breakfast reported, the company aims to use this strategy to challenge SpaceX's established Starlink network in the consumer satellite internet market. [1][3][4]
According to SatNews, the Amazon Leo constellation relies on software-defined low Earth orbit satellites. Amazon manufactures these spacecraft at its high-volume production facility located in Kirkland, Washington. [1]
SatNews also reported that Amazon holds launch contracts across multiple commercial launch providers to build out the constellation. These providers include United Launch Alliance using Atlas V and Vulcan Centaur rockets, Arianespace using Ariane 6, and Blue Origin using New Glenn. [1]
Separately, IndexBox reported that the global satellite launch vehicle market is expected to grow higher toward 2035. This growth is driven by the increasing demand for commercial mega-constellations. [2]
