Rocket Lab has delayed the first launch of its next-generation Neutron rocket to 2027, Space and Light Reading reported. Following news of the schedule shift, Rocket Lab shares fell sharply, according to reports from the Los Angeles Times and TradingView. [2][3][4][5][6]

The delay affects Rocket Lab's efforts to compete directly with SpaceX in launch services. Despite the setback to the medium-lift rocket program, Stocktwits reported that financial analysts continue to view Rocket Lab as one of the most capable and innovative competitors to SpaceX in the commercial space sector. [5][6][7]

The Motley Fool compared Rocket Lab's high-growth financial trajectory with nuclear infrastructure vendor BWX Technologies. While Rocket Lab grows annual revenue by 38 percent alongside significant cash burn, BWX Technologies trades at a 29x forward price-to-earnings ratio with stable cash flow backed by massive government contracts. Rocket Lab is a publicly traded aerospace manufacturer and launch provider that operates the small-lift Electron rocket. As of January 2026, Electron has completed over 75 missions. The company is developing the reusable Neutron medium-lift rocket to support satellite constellation deployment, interplanetary missions, and human spaceflight. [10]
