Satellite manufacturer NearSpace Launch announced on October 15, 2026, that it plans to launch its TROOP-F6 spacecraft in April 2027. SatNews and Lohud both report that the uncrewed satellite will launch aboard SpaceX's Bandwagon-6 rideshare mission. NearSpace Launch, which is based in Upland, Indiana, will serve as both the satellite owner and mission manager for the flight. [1][6][7]
According to SatNews, NearSpace Launch will use the orbital platform to conduct internal technology demonstrations. The mission will also support commercial and institutional hosted payloads focused on monitoring space weather and space situational awareness. Space weather involves the varying conditions within the Solar System, including the effects of the solar wind on the magnetosphere and ionosphere of Earth. [1][6][9]
SatNews reports that the upcoming TROOP-F6 mission builds upon the flight heritage of the previous orbital demonstrators from NearSpace Launch. These earlier missions include the TROOP-3 spacecraft, which launched aboard the Transporter-5 mission. [1][6]
In separate developments, Spaceflight Now, the Santa Ynez Valley News, the Lompoc Record, and the Santa Maria Times report that SpaceX is preparing to launch a classified payload for the United States Space Force on October 15, 2026. Spaceflight Now states that the uncrewed USSF-481 mission will launch on a Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 4 East at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. [2][3][4][5]
